What is it about the Weekend???

Seriously, what is it about the weekend that makes us get out of our routine of eating healthy and getting the workouts in.  Before I got involved with Beachbody, the weekends to me were a free for all, meaning I ate what I wanted, when I wanted and didn’t even count one calorie.  I figured my hard work for the week made up for it.  Wrong! Here’s the thing, and I didn’t realize this then is that mentality was sabotaging all my progress for the week, which is why I didn’t lose any weight!

Once I realized to lose the weight you need to make a life change, which meant not eating whatever whenever I wanted on the weekends, but really having only one cheat meal for the entire weekend.  Once I did this, the weight came off and I got the results I wanted.  I kept at this for a long time until recently

Fast forward to now and I’m back to my old ways, but this time I’m using the pregnancy card a little too much.  At first, I was eating so bad because I felt terrible.  Now, I’m just giving into my cravings for bad foods, which are not good for me or the baby.  Again, I have the week down right but come Friday night…all the healthy eating is out the window.  This mentality doesn’t just happen to us pregnant ladies, now does it?  Do you get more relaxed about what you are eating on the weekends?  Maybe skip the workouts?

It happens, so that’s why I decided to blog about it because I’m done waking up Monday morning disappointed that I didn’t eat better or get a little more exercise in.  So, I have come up with a plan for myself and I’m hoping it will help you too.  Here’s my plan of action going forward for the weekends:

1.  Treat my weekends like I do my weeks.  Typically, on Sunday I prep all my food for the week.  So, on Thursday or Friday night, I’m taking out my calendar and looking at what’s ahead of us on Saturday and Sunday.  I’ll plan my meals around those days like I do during the work week.

2.  Grocery Shopping.  I’ll stock up on more veggies and fruits so I can grab those when I’m on the go instead of a protein bar or hitting up a Panera or some other fast food place for a quick snack, which we know is not healthy.

3.  Since the weather is getting nice, I commit to one day of walking on the weekend.  It can be a quick 20 minutes or a longer walk…whatever I feel at the time but some type of exercising will be done.

4.   I have also decided that I am allowed a small cup of frozen yogurt daily (if I want) to satisfy my sweet tooth, but that is it.  If I choose to have another sweet during the day, then there is no fro yo later that night.

5.  One cheat meal a week (most likely on the weekend).  One, not all meals!

Weekends are meant to unwind, spend time with family and friends, and enjoy yourself.  But if you have a goal to lose weight,  stay healthy for a little one that is soon to be here, or want a healthy lifestyle, you cannot take a break and expect results.

So, what is your plan?  I’m here for you…we can do this and it’s better to do with friends!
